Sapporo Heart Centre was established in April 2008 as a clinic with only 19 beds. Since then, it has continuously grown, now performing over 2,400 percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) annually, making it the leading facility in Japan.

In 2012, the centre launched its cardiovascular surgery department, establishing a comprehensive treatment system that integrates both interventional and surgical cardiac care. By 2013, the centre began treating arrhythmias, achieving the capability to address all types of heart diseases.

During this period, a second-phase building was completed in 2013, increasing the number of beds from 19 to 53, marking the transition from a clinic to a full hospital. Simultaneously, the number of physicians was increased, and significant equipment advancements were made, including the acquisition of Hokkaido’s first 256-slice cardiovascular CT and MRI machines, along with the construction of two new operating rooms.

In October 2014, the third-phase building was completed, further increasing the bed count to 74. The number of catheterization rooms expanded from three to six, with five dedicated to interventional cardiology and one serving as a hybrid operating room for simultaneous cardiovascular surgery and interventional treatments.

In October 2018, Sapporo Heart Centre officially joined the Hong Kong Asia Medical Group, and that year, the bed capacity was increased to 85. The centre is committed to continuous improvement, striving to transform from Japan’s leading heart facility to the foremost in Asia.
